If you are often on the road or out in the field, you can receive important information on your phone using SMS text messaging. This may include a message from a client, an e-mail alert when the network is down, or a daily sales summary. Receiving all of your e-mail on your phone can be wasteful and disruptive, but being selective can help you stay on top of your game.
To get started, you need the e-mail address for your mobile phone. You can often find this on your wireless provider’s website. The address includes your mobile phone number and the wireless provider’s domain. Here are two examples:
4445556666@msg.myvzw.com (Verizon)
4445556666@messaging.nextel.com (Nextel)
Next, send some test messages to your address. Determine how to view SMS messages on your phone and how many characters your phone is able to display. Be sure to learn how to delete messages, so they don’t accumulate in your phone’s memory.
In your e-mail program (such as Microsoft® Outlook or Lotus), you can use rules to automatically copy certain e-mails to your mobile phone’s e-mail. Voila! You are ready to go mobile!
